International Botanical Beauty Company PHYTO Plants Garden at Imagine Bell Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz., JANUARY 18, 2012 – Imagine Bell Canyon announced today that it is partnering with international botanical hair products creator PHYTO to build an herb garden on its campus. The creation of the garden takes place Sunday, January 22, from 12:30 – 4PM and more than 60 volunteers, including PHYTO employees, parents, and students will do the work.

“PHYTO is holding its annual sales meeting in the Phoenix area and as part of that meeting,PHYTO team members are engaging in a community service project,” said Imagine BellCanyon principal Cynthia Juarez. “We are honored that PHYTO chose our campus for this important project.”

In the project, team members from PHYTO and Imagine Bell Canyon teachers, students, and parents will create eight Classroom Gardens. These gardens will be assigned to each grade. Each grade will then work on their garden throughout the growing seasons. The volunteer group will assemble pipes, place sprinkler spouts and fill dirt and seeds. They will also make a shade top that protects the seeds from intense heat.

PHYTO, working with Phoenix–‐based VolunTEAMism, chose Imagine Bell Canyon because the charter school features a “MicroSociety” educational program. In the MicroSociety program, at-risk students get hands-on experience creating their own “nation.” In their nation, students create political, economic and social structures. The bounty derived from the garden will help students with the economic portion of their project. They will use the herbs in the salsa they will sell to their customers.

Todd Davis from VolunTEAMism presented Imagine Bell Canyon’s MicroSociety program to PHYTO.  “It was an immediate point of connection,” states Davis. “Their hope is that the students will use this garden to create a prosperous  and sustainable economic system  for their MicroSociety.”

PHYTO personnel, in conjunction with Jay Harper of Harper’s Nursery, will create eight gardens and a cafeteria mural at Imagine Bell Canyon (18052 N. Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix) on Sunday, Jan. 22 from 12:30 – 4PM. To learn more about PHYTO and Imagine Bell Canyon, please visit www.phyto-usa.com or www.imagineschoolsarizona.com.
